2016 was a big year for myself and Sarah – not just professionally, but personally as well. I always tease and call Sarah my work wife, but as business partners, our relationship can sometimes mirror that of a married couple, and we have supported one another through personal loss and professional success over the last 12 months.
It seems like only yesterday that we made the big decision to become business partners – it’s was a daunting step, but we didn’t waiver.
Together we have supported over 60 families on their journey to parenthood over the last year.
Sarah and I knew we wanted to make real connections with families as well as local businesses in our community, so in 2016 we collaborated with Discover Your Yoga and Mochaberry Coffee to create a monthly Mom & Baby Social in Orangeville. The first Monday of every month we spent with local moms (some of whom were our clients) and talked about, well, all sorts of things really! We will be continuing these socials into 2017 – I must say, they have become a monthly highlight for me.
An important part of being a doula is continuing education.
Both Sarah and I would consider ourselves perpetual students, so it wasn’t long before we were both eager to jump into some incredible courses. In the Spring we attended Postpartum Doula Training through ProDoula, and in the summer I attended an Infant Sleep Education Training through BeboMia. Both of these courses have allowed us to offer superior support and services to our clients.
Another aspect of the growth of our business included the elevation of doulas as a profession. There are many misconceptions about what a doula does, and how a doula can be of service to an expecting family. With the help of Mike Shelley of T.O. Drones, who understood and embraced our vision wholeheartedly, over the summer we create a video series addressing the very questions about doulas that we come across on a regular basis.
In 2017 many of our past clients will be celebrating their baby’s 1st birthday, and our current clients will be celebrating the birth of their baby’s. But that’s not all!
2017 will bring the launch of a number of services, including Birth Photography by a renowned GTA photographer, a prenatal education class geared towards Grandparents, Infant Sleep Education and Support, as well as many special events and workshops! We are confident these services and classes will meet the needs of our families and the larger communities of Orangeville, Brampton & Mississauga and that we will continue to build bridges with businesses that aim to serve families in the GTA.
Fare thee well 2016!
2017 – we welcome you with open arms!
